The end of an era.

I couldn't have been more excited for the last installment in the Harry Potter series. I have been reading these books since I was 11 or 12 years old, and now, 10 years later, we've arrived at the end.
Fortunately, there is at least one other person in Lund right now who is equally obsessed with Harry Potter and this final book. On Saturday, after we returned from our field trip to Glimmingehus and Ales Stenar and the rest of our classmates went back to the dorms, Melissa and I went on a mission. We were desperate to get our copies of the final Harry Potter book before it was too late.
Unfortunately, Lund being the small city that it is, EVERYTHING closes at 4PM on the weekend. The only thing open past 4PM, as far as I can tell, is Pressbyrån (a chain of convenience stores) and the falafel stand (falafel and kebabs are as popular in Sweden as burritos are in California -- a store on every corner).
That meant we had to go to the mall. It took us an hour to catch the bus and get across town to Academibokhandeln, the only bookstore in Lund that we knew was open, and we arrived 10 minutes before closing. We ran through the mall like we were being chased by Death Eaters and magically (ha, sorry) we arrived just in time to buy our books!
I finished my copy last night, and it was GREAT. I won't say any more, because I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't finished, but it was my favorite book so far, really härlig.

I'm assuming you got a copy in English... I'm curious, is it the American version or the British version? How many hours did it take you to finish it off? More or less than the time you went downstairs at 8am to get your morning-delivery copy of book #4 and then went back to bed and emerged at dinnertime having completed the entire thing?
The British version! I am hoping to snag an American copy once I get back. JK Rowling has one of the characters use a swear word towards the end, and my friend Melissa is skeptical that they even put it in the American version! (I think they left it in for sure.)
Ha, it took me a day and a half, but the second "day" I stayed up til 3AM.
What page are you on?
I got it for free with points from citibank but they still haven't delivered it yet! So no fair ruining anything.

I'm on page 351...I have to pace myself. I get so sucked in...like Voldemort taking over my thoughts!!
I don't know about you but it made me cry in at least several different places... :( You've heard, of course, that Rowling is going to do an 8th H.P. book, a glossary of some kind? At least we can go back to the beginning and start all over again, again! I'm just wild about Harry!
I've been telling people about the "8th book" and no one will believe me! Finally someone else who knows!

Hey Linnea - just catching up with you and your blog...btw they leave "the word in", in the American version...great scene isn't it?????
It was a great book and certainly the end of an era for many of us!!! I remember reading it with you and the other squirrel pirates at the hospital when Gram was having surgery...
While I love JK Rowling's writing, yours is pretty magical, as well, for an old aunt in Redlands!!! Sarah and Jacob are both home - and the re-entry begins!
